Frequently asked questions

How easy is it for us to change accountants to Newsham & Co?

Newsham & Co make it very easy for you to change accountants and we would work with you to make the process run smoothly.

First arrange a free initial consultation with Heather Newsham to discuss your requirements and see what we can offer to you.

We would then prepare a letter for you to sign, which would be sent to your existing accountants authorising Newsham & Co to obtain all your tax and accounting paperwork.

Newsham & Co will then write a professional courtesy letter to ask your existing accountant if there is any reason why we should not accept you as a client and also obtain the tax and accounting paperwork.  This is standard practice between accountants and you should not be charged by your existing accountant to release this information.

Please contact us to arrange a time to suit you.

Should I form a Limited Company or trade as a sole trader or partnership?

This is a question which has too many variables to consider to provide a definitive answer.  It completely depends on the type of business you have, and your own thoughts on the multitude of variables which exist. This is a question that definitely needs qualified guidance.  Please contact us for a free initial consultation if you are considering setting up a business and want advice on how best to do it.

What are your fees?

Newsham & Co charge an hourly rate for the work we undertake, but as we do not have a large office or overhead to service, our rates can be a lot less than larger firms of Chartered Accountants and you can be safe in the knowledge you are always dealing with a qualified professional.

Whenever possible we will try and give some guidance of fees before undertaking any work.

Do I need an accountant?

This is a question we are often asked, for many people in business it is strongly advisable.  We have met

people who have thought they understand the complex tax and accounting rules and have gone on to make costly mistakes either in terms of paying too much or too little tax.  They have then had to pay accountancy fees to clear up the errors to put things right with HMRC and Companies House.  Costly penalties can be incurred from HMRC if you do not pay enough tax.

Many of our clients are happy to pay a qualified accountant to provide them with comfort that their tax returns are being completed accurately and they are claiming all the allowances available to them.

If you contact us we would help advise you whether or not it is advisable for you to have an accountant in your particular circumstances.
